The Archives, located at our Temple, includes personal papers, business records, photographs, oral histories and artifacts from the early years of our establishment. Volunteers & donations are greatly appreciated. Learn more by clicking here.
Posin-Wishnew Library
The Posin-Wishnew Library has been described as "the gem" of the Temple. Our library, with approximately 7,500 volumes, features fiction, non-fiction, biography and extensive reference and children's sections. Since about 1994, the books have been catalogued under the Weine Classification Scheme for Judaica Libraries. Books processed prior to that time, under the Dewey Decimal System, are gradually being switched over.
Our library is a Jewish library, with books of Jewish content or by Jewish authors. Our goal is to serve our congregants, but we welcome visitors and area college students doing research for their classes on Judaism or Religious Studies.
The library is open during regular Temple hours. If you wish assistance, Librarian Larue Amaya is on duty most Monday and Wednesday mornings. It is always advisable to call ahead to make sure the Temple Office and Library are open.
Union for Reform Judaism: Temple Shalom is a member of the URJ, which provides vision and leadership to Reform Jews and congregations on spiritual, ethical, social justice and management issues. It provides programmatic support to Reform Jewish congregations and offers opportunities for individual growth and identity that few congregations could provide by themselves, such as camps and Israel programs for youth, study kallot and North American and regional biennials. The website of the URJ provides wonderful information on a variety of subjects (family concerns, leadership, social action, lifelong Jewish learning).
